Troy onion sets harvested!
 |
Harvesting Troy onion sets has started. Last Monday, Marco van ’t Westeinde harvested his Troy onion sets. The onions were planted in November and were very small when the winter started. Despite this, the onions had no trouble withstanding the heavy frosts of last winter. In addition there were hardly any signs of bolting in the field. This is a huge difference to the traditional winter onions sets with 100% Japanese ‘blood’. The genetic makeup of Troy shows more resemblance to spring onion sets, so the quality of the product is far superior.

Troy is exclusively sold under the Quality inside label by representatives of Bejo Zaden and De Groot en Slot. The onions have been irrigated a few times. The onions go to MSP in Nieuwdorp. The harvested product is beautifully large and very uniform. The yield is estimated to be a good 40 tons of dried product per hectare.
