Onion set growers are making the most of the good weather
 |
This week growers all over the Netherlands are busy planting their onion sets. Most of the fields have been recently ploughed. They are quickly dried by the wind and the sun, and then they are ready for the planting machine. Fields ploughed a while ago are often still too wet to be planted at this point. The photographs below show onions being planted at Schouwen-Duiveland. These planting machines belong to the contractors Van de Velde and Bevelander.

Arjan Knop of Maatschap VKK uit Zonnemaire fills the planting machine with Jagro onion sets. He intends to plant out around 1500 kg of onion sets per hectare.
